Konyak is an ethnic Tribe resides in the Mon District of  Nagaland in the Indo-Myanmar Border. The Konyak tribe is the largest of the seventeen tribes dwelling in Nagaland. Though Till early sixties the Konyak Tribes were known as the Head Hunters but the the practice of head hunting is not existing now.  They are rich with their cultural heritage and traditions. Visiting Mon one can experience the rich Culture, traditions and heritage of the spectacular Konyak Tribe . Amongst the different harvest festivals as the means of tourism potentiality in North East India, the Aoling festival is a magnificent one celebrated by the Konyak Tribes during the 1st week of April that generally falls on 5th & 6th of April each year. The Aoling festival is the biggest festival celebrated in the district of Mon. The Aoling signifies the lives of the Konyaks. The festival is celebrated during the first week of April. It also coincides with the beginning of Konak New Year. It is the celebration of a harvesting joys by the Konyak Nagas at the advent of the spring season and prays through singing & dancing for a good outcome of harvest in the year to come. Apart from these, visiting Mon will be an exploration to meet the Konyak Naga King called as ‘Aungh’ – whose residence falls in between the boundary of Indo-Burma and can have a talk with old Tatooted folks siting near the fireplace of the Village or can see the beautiful Koyak ladies weaving their traditional looms in the front yard.
So,Experiencing Mon during the Spring is surely an amzing holidaying in North East India ever memorable.
